Web Site Development

Your website is your face to the world. If it looks shabby and unkept, your business looks second rate.

Having a professional looking website is a requirement to build trust on the Internet. If your site is a collection of banners and displays all the colors of the rainbow, you're not going to generate the trust required to influence or persuade visitors to buy your products.

Your main page should have a professional "look" to it. It should look clean and easy to use.

If you are not experienced in developing web sites, you should either:

  • Find a professional, experienced developer who can create your web site, or
  • Locate a web template you can use as a model for your site, and add text, images, and links to your site yourself.

Professional developers will work with you to develop a "theme" for your site. They will work with you to find the right images and format for your site.

You will still need to create most of the text that will appear on your pages. But, all your pages will have the same "look and feel". That is, they will all look similar, have menu links in the same place, and look like they belong to the site.

The number of pages you want on you site and the complexity of the linking structure will be important factors in how much your site will cost. Most website designers work by the hour, so the more complex a project your site is, the more it will cost you.

There are many "quick and easy" web design companies out there, advertising that you can have a one or two page website up in an hour. But, be sure you know what results you can expect.

On the other hand, if you have some knowledge of how to write HTML code, you can use a web template as the basic "look and feel" of your site. You can then duplicate the template for each page. Then, you can add your own text and links.

And there are many website design programs that you can use which are very user friendly. But, keep in-mind that most of these tools are for beginners. They may not provide a professional looking site. If it’s your business, the one you’re trying to make profitable, image is everything. Don’t try to cut corners in this area.

If you can do most of the work yourself, it will cost less. And, you can always ask a friend or a professional for help when you experience difficulties.

In either case, the more work you can do yourself, the easier it will be to get your website up and running.
