Build, Integrate, Test Here you assemble a team to code, test, and integrate components of the application. This is an iterative process that proves the viability of each component as its coding is complete. The end users of the system will be involved in testing the functionality and performance of the system as new modules become available for user testing. Of course as you go along, the future users of the application will think new features they "absolutely must have". This scope creep will increase the project duration and cost. One goal of the development team is to hold off as many enhancement as possible until after implementation.
Implement - Deploy Here you roll out the application to the users. You may roll out the application in phases to one division or group at a time, or you may roll out the application corporate wide.
Operation Here your customers will evaluate the functionality and usability. They may find program bugs that need to be fixed. And the users will begin making a list of enhancements for future, scheduled development and implementation.
Optimize During ongoing application use, performance can often be improved through optimizing some algorithms or using different hardware.

In addition to the development team, there is normally a project management team that tracks the progress of individual tasks to help ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget.
