Effective Internet Marketing Tools that Work

Internet marketing involves all aspects of presenting a product or service on a web site, attracting targeted visitors to the site, processing purchase requests, responding to your site's visitor inquiries, and providing customer service.

Presenting a product or service on your web site involves understanding what your potential customers need, and what they actually want. The features of your product must satisfy their needs. The benefits of your product must satisfy their wants or desires. While many people confuse needs and desires, good Internet marketers understand the difference.

Your ad copy you use on your website must be heavily loaded with benefits that appeal to your potential customer's wants and desires. While a person may need a automated system, what they really want is more free time. While they may need an automatic links checker what they really want is freedom to go to the beach or go out on a date. You can mix features and benefits by saying something like "This automated link checker works while you are relaxing at the beach."

Attracting targeted visitors to your site can be done in a number of ways. But, first let's talk about the difference between visitors, hits to your site, and targeted visitors. Many services offer hundreds or even thousands of hits to your site. But, if those visitors are not interested in purchasing a product like you are offering, they are wasting your bandwidth. It is better to pay a little more to get targeted visitors that want what you have to offer.

The best way to get targeted visitors is through natural searches. That is, you work to get your site positioned high on the search engine results for appropriate search terms. This take time and effort.

Faster ways to get targeted traffic is through pay per click services like Google's AdWords and traffic exchanges like TrafficSwarm. In both cases, you present your offer using a targeted keyword phrase as your link text and a short description of what you have to offer. Traffic exchanges are by far less expensive than pay per click services. While you can spend a dollar or more per click with AdWords, TrafficSwarm is free.

You can process purchase requests easily through services like Clickbank and PayDotCom. Both services will handle payments by credit card and both services will handle returns.

If you have more complex requirements you can purchase a shopping cart and payment processing software and a merchant account. More complex solutions will allow you to offer "upsells" to your customers that can generate more money for you.

You should also have an opt-in mailing list for your customers. This allows you to communicate with them when you have an update. And it allows you to contact them regarding "back-end" sales.

These are the techniques you can use to get your online business moving forward.
