Here are ten tips to improve your fitness health. Even athletes who are incredibly fit may not be really healthy. They often tread a fine line between health and illness or injury.
- Understand what your body is telling you. If you are exercising it's easy to keep on day after day even if your body is feeling pain. Sometimes you need to do cross training to give heavily exercised muscles a rest and let them recover and build muscle fiber.
- Eat the right foods. It's not joke that you need high octane gas for a sports car. So, just as you expect your body to perform at peak efficiency, you need to provide it with high quality foods. Fruits and raw vegetables should be the platform on which you can build. Understand the body's nutritional requirements and don't fill it with junk food just to satisfy an empty stomach. Eat healthy.
- Give it a rest. Your body needs time to recover and repair muscle fiber. Along with proper nutrition, you cells need time for the repair process to complete before being stressed. Take a day off from exercise once in a while. You will actually become more fit an healthier with a rest day on occasion.
- Keep it legal. Don't think that you can enhance your body's performance with steroids or other banned products and remain healthy. Not only is there risk due to contaminated drugs, but there are health risks. Many substances have proven to be harmful to the body in the long run. And, who wants to look great for only a few years then become a crumbling wreak the rest of your life>
- Minimize tablets and supplements. The best way to get proper nutrition is to eat a well balanced, healthy diet. While everyone needs general vitamins, don't overdo it. Self medicating without testing to see if you really need extra this or that can be harmful.
- Stretch more. Your muscles get shorter through exercise. Stretching will keep them limber and improve your muscle tone. One method is to warm up first by spending several minutes stretching before your main workout. Stretch thoroughly after exercising as well.
- Keep well hydrated. If you are exercising more than 30 minutes you may be losing more fluid than your body can easily spare. Sweat removes both fluid and minerals from your body. Drink at least as much fluid as you lose in sweat during long exercise sessions. A sports drink is often helpful because it contains minerals you body loses in sweat.
- Exercise with friends. It's not always easy to exercise. Friends can help motivate you and you can motivate them. It's good to work out together.
- Don't be too competitive. Remember that exercise benefits the body. Competition can provide extra stress that can harm the body. Your competitive nature can make you unaware of that extra stress and as a result you may injure muscles and tendons needlessly.

- Have fun. Not only should you have fun during exercise, but your exercise should make you healthier so you can participate in more enjoyable activities. Having more fun is a reward you should enjoy.
