Affiliate Program Guidance

Affiliate programs have been widely available on the Internet for many years. Affiliate programs are used by both novice and professional marketers. But, novice and professional Internet marketers use affiliate programs differently.

First, let's look at what an affiliate program is. Basically, an affiliate program relationship is an agreement between an affiliate and a merchant. The agreement is a contract between the two parties that stipulates that the affiliate can use various methods including the space on his site to promote the merchants goods. The merchant meanwhile agrees to pay a percentage of each sale generated through the affiliates personalized link.

The affiliate promotes the merchant's product on their web site, through emails to their "list", or through other means. The affiliate can use pay per click, traffic exchanges like TrafficSwarm, or even purchase an email list.

This benefits both the web site owner and the merchant because the product creator spends nothing to advertise their goods and the affiliate pays nothing to research and develop new products.

This creates a win-win situation. The merchant wins because they can sell products without spending time creating advertising campaigns. The affiliate marketer wins by advertising an existing product while not having to maintain an inventory or deal with the hassle of sending out products while gaining a commission for each product sold.

The merchant wins by doing what he does best: creating products. The affiliate wins by doing what he does best: marketing.

As an affiliate marketer, you get to pick and choose between many different products to promote. You're not married to a specific product or even a specific product type. Your risks are minimal because there are no long term binding contracts so if one product doesn't bring in a profit you can quickly and easily replace it with another.

Novice Internet marketers begin by becoming affiliates and learning to market other peoples products. This provides a good education and allows them to gain valuable experience.

But, eventually the novice marketer becomes more experienced and begins to create their own products or redesigns a product they acquire. Then then market the product as their own.

Over time they build their own list of people who are interested in their product, and more importantly, of people who have purchased their product. The list is purchasers is particularly important because these people have built up a trust for the marketer and his product.

Once the marketer has a list, he can being to provide those on his list with valuable information, tips, and links to other products they would be likely be interested in buying. These other products may be more of the marketer's own products or affiliate products.

This is where the real money is found on the Internet. These "back end" products generate money on an ongoing basis. If you list is large enough you can generate thousands of dollars a day when you promote a valuable product.

So, whether you are a novice or a pro, affiliate programs can be your ticket to cash.
