Want to see what the competition is doing? This is the tool.
Want to know how to optimize your pages? This tool provides the suggestions you need to improve your search engine ranking.
So, let's start up the Webmaster Toolkit.
Simply find the web page you want to analyze. Then right-click anywhere on the page.
A menu like what you see on the left is displayed. You'll see the Webmaster Toolkit options near the bottom of the menu.
Link Popularity
The first Webmaster Toolkit option is "Link Popularity." Selecting this option creates a report showing the number of links other websites have to the page you are displaying in your browser.
You'll find the number of links for several popular engines:
|
Engines Used
|
It also displays a weighted link popularity score and site popularity score.
All too often, your results are disappointing.
This simply means that you have some work to do to make your site more popular. You can add valuable content and optimize each page to make it more appealing to both the visitor and to search engines.
Keyword Density
The next Webmaster Toolkit option is "Keyword Density." Here you enter a keyword or phrase. Then click "Get it!" to product a report.
The report shows the keyword density in various locations within the web page:
|
Areas of the Page Analyzed
|
You will likely have some sections of your page for which you can either increase or decrease your keyword density.
Position Reporter
You will enter the keyword phrase for which you want the report.
The target page is sought in a number of engines. Searches are done for the first 50 search results. If your page is found, the resulting page and position will be reported. If your page is not found, then "not found within 50" will be reported.
A search is made for the following engines:
|
Engines Used
|
Search Engine Submission
The search engine submission will submit the current page and two more to 30 engines.
Search Engine Optimizer
One of the most important tasks you have is to optimize your pages to appeal to the search engines. The "Search Engine Optimizer" feature gives you a number of tips that pertain to your page.
After selecting this option, you select the engine you want to optimize your page for. Then enter the keyword or phrase.
The optimizer then analyzes your page according to the rules it understand that the engine uses to rank pages. Each engine is a bit different so you may want to make separate pages to appeal to each engine.
The resulting page shows a number of tips that are specific to your page.
You can click on the magnifying glass to get an explanation of the short problem description. Here is the explanation of "Meta: Irrelevant META tags"
